HAZY EARTH: THE LAST NON-SPACES OF AMSTERDAM / created by Anastasija Pirozenko, Femke Janssen / multidisciplinary project
Hazy Earth is a multidisciplinary art project combining film, video installation, and participatory walks, exploring the last remaining urban voids—terrain vague—unclaimed, overlooked spaces on the fringes of structured cities. Through a dreamlike journey, the project reveals hidden microcosms, unheard stories, and enigmatic urban rituals.
Challenging the logic of productivity and profit, terrain vague offers an alternative reality—one where disorder fosters creativity and ambiguity becomes a space of possibility. Unlike the rigid structures of capitalist cities, these forgotten landscapes serve as zones of freedom, transformation, and unexpected encounters.
The project invites viewers to discover the treasures of terrain vague: remnants of urban greenery, traces of contemporary urban archaeology, and the subtle interactions between humans, animals, and space. What first appears desolate transforms into something strangely magical.
Presented in a fragmented, non-linear structure, Hazy Earth gradually assembles its own universe, blending and reconfiguring spaces in playful, sometimes humorous ways. Through these scattered elements, the project deconstructs space, encouraging viewers to imagine parallel realities of their own.
