A BRIEF HISTORY OF NATURALISATION / art film/ 2025 / 11min
Client MÜGE YILMAZ
I was responsible for the cinematography and editing of this art film by Müge Yilmaz. The piece draws a parallel between the artist’s journey to Dutch citizenship and the historical migration of the tulip to the Netherlands, exploring themes of belonging, exclusion, and in-betweenness.
The 15-minute video blends personal narrative, science fiction, and humor, featuring plant-human hybrids and reflections on cultural integration. Visually we emphasized the surreal and poetic nature of these hybrid identities, creating a dialogue between organic textures and futuristic elements.
In the editing process, we worked closely with the artist to shape a rhythm that oscillates between intimacy and estrangement—supporting the conceptual tension between displacement and rootedness.
